Believe it or not?! Greece has a winter and it’s cold and snowy in the mountains. It also snows on the Parthenon. The worst part of going to Greece in the winter is arriving at our house and finding the water frozen over. I went 10 days without water and had to go to the coast for 4 of those days because I was grossly underprepared. The following photos gives a good outline of what I found on my arrival:
I couldn’t take the cold anymore. I was out of firewood and I was burning through propane tanks at a rapid pace. I decided to take a few days off from mountain village life and move down to the coast to stay with family. I went from my fingers freezing while typing emails to sitting in the sun and typing emails under a lemon tree
Finally, after 10 days water was restored to the house, the weather warmed up a bit, and I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to hike up into the mountains and experience the rugged beauty that is Epirus.
It was finally time to leave and return to Athens.
